“As a result of four decades of war, Afghanistan has the highest number of widows in the world” - UN

2.5 million women and their children who are stigmatized, discriminated and they live in extreme poverty

AFGHANISTAN

“We are dead but have not been buried yet. But that is just the matter of time”

- Fawzia (28) widow, mother of two children

In the latest UN report, nearly 28.3 million people, including children will need humanitarian assistance in Afghanistan in 2023.

Amid the humanitarian disaster in Afghanistan 2.5 million widows and their children suffer the most.

Prior to 2021, widows were able to work and the government provided meager pensions for widows who lost their husband in armed conflict. Their life was really challenging but they had options and could take care of their children. While they were often still marginalized, a financial safety net was available.

With the de facto authority of Afghanistan, the basic human rights of women became debarred. Women are not allowed to study after the 6th grade, not allowed to work and leave their home without a male guardian. With these restrictions, the life of a widow is unbearable.

With multiple humanitarian crises, dramatically increasing food prices and the Taliban’s harsh interpretation of Sharia Law, widows have lost many opportunities to maintain their and their children’s life. Many have lost their homes and have no choice but to beg on the streets. This creates a terrible choice because hundreds of widows and their children have also been removed from the street and imprisoned by the Taliban. If their children became seriously ill, they can not afford to pay for medicines or treatments.

Part of these widows are hiding from being forced to re-marry to a fighter and depending on charity organization's support.

“I worked before. I could feed my child twice a day. Now, if I am lucky, I can feed my daughter twice a week with bread. Sometimes I can’t sooth her, she is crying because she is hungry and I don’t have anything to ease her hunger” - Nooria (23) widow, mother of a girl

Our organization is calling for donation

Together with our local partner charity organisation (supporting widows and orphans), we are setting up a special project to help 80 widows and their children who live in extreme poverty

What they need:

They would like to get basic education to allow them to work, work from within homes

They need urgent support until they are able to stand ontheir own (blankets, heaters, food, school equipment)

We believe in self-sustainable projects - start-ups

Our plan is to hire a female sewing instructors, providing sewing machines and fabric, so they will be able to produce blankets, clothes after learning the ins and the outs of it. Our local partner organizations are able to then sell them on the market providing the profit to these families in need.

Our plan is to provide basic education by hiring a female teacher. While learning how to sew blankets and clothes, they additionally be able to learn how to read, write and calculate to help manage their growing business.

To ease their suffering and basic needs, we would like to provide them blankets, heaters and food packages monthly

Please join us to ease the suffering of these women and children!

We have started already :-)
